Coaster Dynamics
3/99 - Present

Conceived and produced Coaster Dynamics -- a shareware product targeted for the secondary-level science education market.

Coaster Dynamics is educational software incorporating a real-time roller coaster simulator that combines the fun of designing a virtual roller coaster with learning physics. Included with the product is a companion set of physics lessons and "Coaster Lab" sessions which can be used by educators to supplement their course curricula. The software runs on Windows, and can be used either as a stand-alone game or as a teaching tool in an introductory physics course.

The Tech Museum of Innovation (San Jose, CA)
4/00 - 7/00

  • Designed and implemented a web-based tool using dynamic HTML and Perl/CGI scripts for managing video files recorded for an interactive exhibit.

  • Performed debugging and code upgrades for the Innovations Forum exhibit, an interactive exhibit running on Silicon Graphics workstations with the IRIX 6.2 operating system.

The Tech Museum of Innovation (San Jose, CA)
6/97 - 1/99

Designed and implemented 3 interactive, multimedia, exhibits focused on combining science education with state-of-the art computer technology.

  • Design a Coaster - An interactive exhibit allowing a user to design a virtual roller coaster.

  • Tech Cyclone - A virtual reality simulator that allows a user to "ride" a roller coaster. The user may ride a coaster of their own design, or select from other existing tracks.

  • Earthquake Simulator - An interactive exhibit allowing a user to investigate the response of a building during an earthquake.

Independent Contractor (Sole Proprietor)

H3D Entertainment (San Jose, CA)
10/97 - 1/98

  • Developed a Software Developer's Toolkit (SDK) for H3D's proprietary, PC-based, stereographic 3D viewing system.

The SDK included a Software Developer's Porting Guide, and fully functional example code for a variety of hardware/software environments and graphics API's. These included OpenGL with Windows 95, Glide 2.45 (3Dfx Voodoo Graphics board), and Redline 2.0 (Rendition Verite Graphics board).

Silicon Graphics Computer Systems (Mountain View, CA)
Systems Engineer/Member of Technical Staff
Applications Consulting Engineering, Technical Marketing Division
3/88 - 5/97

Performance Plus Team
9/94 - 5/97

  • Analyzed and enhanced performance of key 3rd party CAD/CAM applications (SDRC I-DEAS, PTC Pro/ENGINEER, and EDS Unigraphics) on SGI and competing systems. Included the creation and implementation of benchmark test suites, analysis of results, and interfacing with SGI product development and sales organizations.

Developers Program
6/90 - 9/94

  • Designed and implemented the graphical user interface for the first 4 releases of the SGI Hot Mix CD-ROM, a CD containing 3rd party applications and demos that shipped with all SGI computers sold.

  • Created the Developers Toolbox CD-ROM, a collection of SGI software tools and example programs for 3rd party software developers. Directed and implemented software engineering for Toolbox Releases 1.0 through 4.0.

  • Initiated an email-based software developer support system that significantly improved customer satisfaction.

  • Led the software support team for the first 3 SGI Developer Forums (1992-1994), a technical conference that annually attracted up to 500 3rd party software developers.

Applications Support Group
3/88 - 9/90

  • Provided technical support and porting of 3rd party applications.

  • Worked with developers to create demos of their codes for SGI use. Produced a suite of CAD/CAM demos and conducted training for sales personnel that helped increase annual CAD/CAM related computer sales from $10 million to $50 million in 3 years.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Livermore, CA)
Mechanical Engineer
Transportation Systems Research Group/Mechanical Engineering Department
7/78 - 3/88

  • Performed computer modeling and design analysis of electric vehicles and mass transit systems.

  • Performed 2D and 3D finite element analyses for various design projects.

  • Wrote an IGES data file translator for in-house finite element codes.
